Mantras
A space to move, to sound, to come home to yourself.
At Tucsi Yoga, we weave mantras into our yoga practice not as performance, but as vibration, feeling, and medicine.
Whether you're just beginning or coming back to it, this is a space to explore sound, silence, movement, and meaning — one breath at a time.
What Is a Mantra?
A mantra is a sacred sound, word, or phrase.
It’s a tool to calm the mind, center the breath, and open the heart.
Try This
Close your eyes.
Open your mouth wide.
Make any sound that comes out.
No thinking, just let it happen.
What did you hear?
Most people end up making an “Ahhh” sound. It’s open and natural — comes from deep in your chest and throat.
That “Ah” is actually the first part of the sound AUM (or OM). This is a really important mantra in yoga and meditation.
AUM is made of three parts:
A (Ah) — when your mouth is wide open, sound comes from the back of your throat. This is the start, the energy of creation or beginning.
U (Oo) — as you round your lips, the sound moves forward. This is the middle, the energy of life moving forward.
M (Mm) — your lips close softly, and the sound hums. This is the end, the energy of completion and silence.
After that, there’s silence — the quiet after the sound ends.
These sounds are primal — simple human sounds anyone can make.
That’s why when we chant AUM (or OM), it connects us to everything around us —
all living things, the earth, and each other.
It’s not just a chant — it’s a way to feel connected to the world because these sounds come from us, and everyone can make them.
Try it again:
Close your eyes.
Make a sound.
Move from “Ah” to “Oo” to “Mm.”
Then sit quietly in the silence.
That silence? That’s part of the mantra too.
